Sailing rig controlled by spar secured to mast and sail clew - has this spar constructed as single boom with stirrup around mast, and handgrip midway along its length
The rig is for sailboards, dinghies, catamarans, hydrofoils, ice- and sand-yachts. It is based on a sail whose tack, head and clew are secured to a universal-joint-mounted mast and the free end of a spar flexibly connected to the mast above the tack, by which the sail is controlled. This spar takes the form of a main boom with its front end formed into a semicircular/semi-elliptical stirrup, pref. hinged to the forward side of the mast. The adjoining portion curves outwards and upwards, the middle third downwards and carries a handgrip and the aftermost porton runs below sail-foot level.
