Compressed movement scanner for photocopier - has two sets of lenses with relative orthogonal movement

An optic scanner for a photocopier has two sets of lenses (4,5) whose relative positions w.r.t. the main optic axis are continuously varied during the scan. This compresses the lateral movement of the scanner without affecting the resolution or the magnification and provides a simple drive. The scanner uses low angle of scan. The system provides a conjugate image (3) between the main subject plane (1) and the second lens (5), with this plane and the final image plane conjugate w.r.t. each other. The speed of each lens orthogonal to the main optic axis is related to the magnification and the actual scan rate.
