The short circuit annunciator indicates a fault in a high- voltage main distribution cable network. It consists of sensors fitted in or along the separate maincurrentpaths. A short circuit alters the physical conditions of the sensors. The sensors transmit a signal, either directly or indirectly indicating the change of condition and are used as a means of identifying the fault. The sensors (8) are linked to light or other radiating, conducting, transmitting and receiving units. Any physical change in the radiation conduction between the radiation source and the receiver is recorded. The sensors are used for remote indication using optical means of transmission (12) to initiate an alarm.
