A garment for providing protection against radiation comprises at least one lead sheet (1) which fits the body in the external region adjacent to the reproductive organs; means for fixing and holding the lead sheet in position are attached to it. Specifically, for a male wearer, the shell surrounds the testicles and fits the body at least at the top and sides. For a female wearer, one lead sheet covers the back in the region of the ovaries, while another lead sheet covers the abdomen in the region of the uterus. The garment, since it is close-fitting, is much lighter than those of the skirt type and permits greater freedom of movement.
