Self cleaning guillotine valve - Uses shutter located by parallel plates and side tracks including long vertical edge strips which fill tracks

The guillotine type valve is used to control a granular or paper paste flow. It has a screw-jack (8,9,10) actuated vertically sliding shutter (2), and a self cleaning action. The shutter or blade slides between two parallel plates (1) both of which include a circular opening (11) for the through flow, being guided by vertical tracks (5) which locate the vertical edges of the plates. An elongated runner strip (3) is built onto each vertical edge of the shutter, has a length which exceeds that of the shutter side, fills the corresponding track over the whole of its length, and prevents track clogging. The strips may be tangential to the opening and a shutter check plate (4) may extend to provide strip scrapers (15) at the vertical tangent points. In addition sprung (6) strip-cleaning wads (7) may be provided, and the base of the shutter may have bevelled edges (13).
