Partial use of waterproof adhesives - to make drums with wound paper bodies to allow direct mounting of drum lids and bases

The body of a drum made from layers of paper wound and bonded by adhesives is treated with conventional, cold-setting adhesives to laminate most of the layers of paper together, but layers near each surface are bonded using an impermeable, waterproof adhesive which can be applied cold. The upper rim of the drum body is turned over to form a roller lip which can accept a conventional metal drum lid and C-clamp directly. The lower rim of the drum body is enveloped in a channel formed in the rim of a metal base to be fitted to the drum body. The fusible adhesives allow the top and base to be mounted without requiring an intermediate metal profile adaptor or seal profile. Claims include fusible adhesives based on polyester or urea formaldehyde resins. Pref. the lower rim of the drum is crimped after being enclosed by the border channel of the drum base. Opt. the drum lid and/or base is of wood or card instead of metal.
