The brake to prevent cross country skis slipping backwards consists of a projection (4) fitted into a hole (2) in the ski (1). It is joined to the skier's boot by a rod (8) which rotates when the boot heel is not in contact with the ski and lowers the projection under the ski. The projection pivots on an axle (5) at one end and has an inclined face (15) with a shorter face (16) at right angles to this when it leaves the ski. It is held in the hold by a spring (9) and is pushed out by a rotating cam (6).
