Continuous casting of composite metal objects - esp. where cast iron tube is coated with aluminium and then used as insert in die cast aluminium alloy cylinder for IC engines

Molten metal flows out of a vessel through a die to form a cast blank, esp. a tube, which then travels immediately through a second vessel contg. another molten metal with a lower m.pt., or a liq. enamel, which forms a coating on the cast tube. The composite tube is then cut to length. The cast blank or tube pref. consists of iron or ferrous metal coated with Zn, Al or Sn held in second vessel. Alternatively, the cast blank is Cu or its alloys, coated with Al. The temp. of the two metals is pref. adjusted so the coating metal diffuses into the cast blank. Used e.g. the simple mass prodn. of tubes forming the lining inside an IC engine cylinder.
