Die for combining two extrudates to cover lay flat multicore cables - esp. to get contrasting coloured faces

A die (1) for extrusion coating of multicore lay-flat cable has inputs (4,5) to receive extrudate from two separate extruders so that the melt flows (7,8) converge on opposite faces of a flat array (9) of core wires or cables passing through the die axis (3). Used for covering the faces of lay-flat cables in similar or dissimilar insulation or sheathing, opt. using contrasting colours. Esp. claimed for applying fluorinated thermoplastic sheathing, specifically made from ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE), fluoroethylene propylene (FEP) or a perfluoroalkoxy resin (PFA). Different extruders may be used to provide different sheathing materials. The die is compact but can ensure adequate impregnation through the web of core wires.
