Piperidyl beta hydroxy esters of formula (I), their salts, quaternary ammonium derivs., and N-oxides are new. The gps. within the brackets represents a satd. carbon cyclic chain; n is 1-5; RA and RB are H, lower alkyl, alicycle or phenyl attached to any C of the ring except the C1; R1 and R2 are H or 1-8C straight, branched, or cyclic alkyl; the carboxylic function is attached to the piperidine ring through the beta or gamma position; R3 is H or 1-4C opt. branched alkyl. (I) may be given orally or by injection, using conventional formulations. The adult daily dosage is 1-5 mg which may be divided into 1-3 admin. daily. LD50 is 7-75 mg/kg i.v and 1100-1900 mg/kg p.o. (species not stated). (I) are anticholinergics and spasmolytics useful in the treatment of stomach and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, hyperacidity, and hiatal hernia.
