The valve has a head (3) on a stem (2). The back (6) of the head is plane and is joined to the stem by a radius (R3) equal to half the diameter (d) of the stem. The valve seat (11) is a curve which forms a diffuser passage of increasing area between itself and the valve head when the valve is open. It holds the gas stream to it by the Coanda effect to prevent turbulence in the flow. In the open position the distance (m) between the back (6) of the valve head and the inside (10) of the combustion chamber is a third of the movement (h) of the valve.
