The solenoid operates the inlet manifold valve is controlled via a mercury tilt switch and a sliding contact on the speedometer needle so that full power is made available on hills or at high speed. The closing of the contacts operates a power contactor which activates the manifold valve operating solenoid to open the manifold passage to the previously unused engine cylinders. Fuel is supplied by a single carburettor and separate air intakes are used for normally used and normally unused cylinders. This arrangement reduces fuel consumption of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine.
