A web finishing system includes a web rewinder which produces logs from a parent roll (10), an accumulator (64) used to store the logs temporarily a log saw (80) and means for automatically controlling the speed of the rewinder (10) based on the status of equipment in the system, eg the number of empty spaces in the accumulator, parent roll size, efficiency of the log saw, efficiency of the rewinder, the number of times the rewinder is inoperative in a certain time and the rate of production of reject logs.
