MANUFACTURE OF ONE-SIDE GALVANIZED AND ONE-SIDE LEAD PLATED STEEL STRIP

PURPOSE:To improve the adhesion of a substrate to a plating metal by galvanizing both sides of a steel strip and sticking molten lead to one side with a coating roll in a nonoxidizing or reducing gaseous atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A steel strip 1 is dipped in a galvanizing bath 3, pulled up, and fed into a gas wiping chamber 5 isolated from the open air. In the chamber 5 a reducing or nonoxidizing gas is sprayed on the strip 1 to regulate the amount of molten zinc stuck. The strip 1 leaving the chamber 5 is passed through a temp. regulating zone 7 and introduced into a lead plating chamber 8, where the strip 1 is plated with lead by contact witha coating roll 14 with molten lead stuck to the surface. Since all of said 3 chambers are maintained in a reducing or nonoxidizing atmosphere, no oxide film is formed on the galvanized surface and lead on the roll surface. Accordingly, zinc and lead well adhere to each other.
