PURPOSE:To make the ungalvanized side of a steel strip clean and to reduce the wear of a polishing tool by galvanizing one side of a steel strip, wetting the other side not to be galvanized with an aqueous weak acid soln. having a specified concn. or =5C satd. monohydric alcohol, and polishing the wetted side. CONSTITUTION:One side of a steel strip is continuously galvanized by dipping in a molten zinc bath in a galvanizing vessel. The other side not to be galvanized is continuously wetted with an aqueous weak acid soln. having 0.1-5wt% concn. or =5C satd. monohydric alcohol. The wetted side is continuously polished with a brush roll or the like to remove soil sticking to the side.
