The galvanized side of steel strip is phosphated with a solution containing, in addition to 1-6 g/l zinc ions and 10-30 g/l phosphate ions, (a) 60-1000 mg/l mono- or poly-hydric alcohol(s) with at least one C-C triple bond, (b) 10-160 mg/l alkyl- or alkenyl-nitrogen compound(s) with at least 5 carbons and/or (c) 10-250 mg/l alkali metal iodide.
