TEA OF ALOE ARBORESCENS MILL. VAR. NATALENSIS BERGER AND ITS PREPARATION

PURPOSE:To provide a nice favorite drink without bitterness, by washing leaves of Aloe arborescens Mill. var. natalensis Berger with hot water, finely cutting the washed leaves, and drying the cut leaves. CONSTITUTION:Aloe arborescens Mill. var. natalensis Berger (A) shown in the figure is a perennial plant belonging to the genus Aloe of the family Liliaceae. Leaves (B) are collected from the plant (A) growing for three years, washed with hot water and cut to a uniform suitable length. The cut leaves are then cut by an electric-powered cutter to a width of about 5mm., and spread and dried in a box with a net in the bottom in the sun in a glass house wholly covered with glass for 6 days while sending air thereto with an electric fan. The dried leaves are stored in a vinyl bag with a drying agent and handled in drinking in the same manner as the ordinary green tea. The drying operation need not be carried out in the sun if an ultraviolet lamp is used.
