REFINING HEAT TREATMENT FOR MEDIUM CARBON MARTENSITE STAINLESS STEEL

PURPOSE:To maintain strength and hardness without lowering rust resisting property by applying refining heat treatment under a specified condition after austenitizing a part of texture of medium carbon martensite stainless steel. CONSTITUTION:The =60% texture of a hot-rolled annealed steel plate of martensite stainless steel containing 0.20-0.40% C, 12.0-18.0% Cr is austenitized by holding it at 1,000 deg.C for 5min. From this temperature to a temperature range of 900-700 deg.C, it is cooled at a cooling rate of 20-300 deg.C/min. Then, it is quenched by oil hardening from that temperature. By this way, hardness and tenacity characteristics similar to the case of conventional refining heat treatment can be obtained by one treatment at low cost without lowering the rust resisting property.
