Magnetic tape cassette system - presses cassette slid into carrier against head assembly and tape drive shafts by spring-loaded push-button assembly

This magnetic tape recording system is more suitable for high fidelity sound reproduction than conventional micro-cassettes. It can have facilities for automatic changing of cassettes. The manually-operated system consists of a drive unit (2), head assembly (4), cassette (1) and cassette carrier (21). The cassette slides into the carrier and is pressed up against the head assembly (4) and tape drive shafts (11,12) by a spring-loaded push-button assembly (37,38,39). The automatic cassette-changing system uses a gearwheel mounted at the back (23) of the carrier to mesh with grooves on the back of the cassette (25), and to drive the cassette into the player. Similar gearwheels on either side of the carrier then mesh with the side-walls of the cassette to force it against the head (4) and drive shafts (11,12).
