The title compounds of formula I and their salts are, with certain exceptions, new: IMAGE W is H or OH; X is ethyl, 1-hydroxyethyl, or acetyl; or W + X = ethylidene; R, is H or Me; R2 and R3 are each H, alkyl or hydroxyalkyl, R3 alternatively being acyl (including alkoxycarbonyl and radicals derived from amino acids and peptides), and at least one of R2 and R3 being other than H.
