ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA depository construction for receiving deposits atunattended banking equipment units in deposit-containing envel-opes, and for issuing receipts for such deposits to bank cus-tomers. The customer activates the depository mechanism toinitiate a deposit procedure by pressing a button, using a keyor inserting a customer-identifying card at a banking unit.Activation of the mechanism opens an entry gate for a horizontaldeposit entry slot to permit a deposit-containing envelope tobe inserted into the slot, and energizes the drive mechanism ofan envelope belt conveyor to transport the envelope through themechanism. As the trailing end of the envelope passes an entrysensor, the entry gate is closed and a conveyor exit gate isopened. As the leading end of the envelope arrives at the exitend of the conveyor, an exit sensor energizes a printer beyondthe exit end of the conveyor which stamps deposit data on theenvelope. Another printer prints similar data on a receipt whilethe envelope is being discharged from the conveyor. As thetrailing end of the envelope passes the exit sensor and drops toa deposit chest, the conveyor drive is stopped and the receiptis issued to the customer.
