The device is particularly for carrying sick, or injured persons over a staircase, and comprises a supporting seat (1) to which carrier belts forming loops (4,5) are attached on opposite sides. The loop ends can be fixed to the seat at spaced points. A single belt can be used to form both loops, passing freely through slots (7,8) in the seat. The loops can be adjustable for length, and both can have shoulder cushions (9) for the carrying person. The seat may consist of an upholstered (10) cover plate (11) with a spaced baseplate, with spacers (13) in between, between which the slots may be formed.
