Provision is made for saving water, according to the type of waste to be flushed away, in a deep-flushing cistern on a water closet. The cistern (1) is divided into two chambers (3,6) of different sizes, one being used when a large volume of water is required, and the other when less will suffice. A V-shaped connecting pipe is needed for outflow. A partition (2) of adequate height separates the two chambers, each of which has a release handle and outflow valve; the inflow valve is sited on the side of the large one, which also contains the float (7) for opening and closing this valve, according to volume required.
