The safety device is intended for vehicle tailgate and rear compartment door locks. The locks may be adjusted for selective or exclusive opening from outside, the locks cooperating with a handle in the vehicle inside. The selector is actuated by a switching arrangement (11) operated from the driver's seat. The function of the switching arrangement can be interrupted w.r.t. each door handle by a servo-element (7) for the adjustment overriding. The servo-element has preferably longitudinally movable plunger, acting upon the respective door lock, the plunger being connected to a member coupled to the inner handle for blocking, or releasing its movement path. The member is typically in the form of a pull-rod with a stop effective on one side. Alternatively it may be provided with a retaining bore for the plunger. The pull-rod may be fitted with coupling and decoupling elements.
