The sailboard rig is basically conventional, comprising a sail with its luff secured to a mast and spread via a boom supported from the mast. It is unstayed, universal-joint-mounted on the board and controlled by the boom. The sail tack (9) and boom (3) connection to the mast (2) are at the same level. From the claw (10) to near the mast foot (8) there is a taut downhaul (13), possibly run through a block for increased purchase. Instead of a wishbone-boom, a single flexible spar may be used. The sail-foot line may run horizontally when the mast is inclined forward.
