The escape ladder assembly for use on high rise buildings consists of a number of individual rigid ladder sections prepared for instant use in the form of a stacked pile (3) on the top of the building. The individual sections are interconnected so that they can be slid-off the pile, producing a continuous rigid ladder (1) along the building front wall. The piles are placed on the building roof top to coincide with the centre line of the anticipated escape route i.e. with the window symmetry lines. The pile and consequently the extended ladder is placed in a position to enable persons trapped inside the building to reach it by climbing out of the window.
