Oil impregnated bearing made from metal powder - usable at high speeds and having high wear resistance

A bearing is made from a powder which is impregnated with a lubricant to supply the bearing surface or surfaces. The friction surfaces of the bearing are coated with a slightly porous material which is effective to provide a controlled supply of oil. The outer surfaces are sealed against the lubricant impregnating the powder. The bearing has n its friction surfaces during operation an oil pressure zone where oil collects to permit lubrication under hydrodynamic conditions. The bearings can operate effectively at high speeds and are very wear resistant.
