Cassette tape tension maintaining device for aircraft - uses flexible and non-extendable belt drives with two deflector shafts

The magnetic tape cassette used on board aircraft is required to change direction of travel rapidly whilst maintaining tape tension. This is effected using flexible and non extendable belt drives to reels. The cassette comprises a plate (1) carrying two reels (4, 5) of magnetic tape (8) which passes over a motor pulley (9). The flexible endless belt (6) passes round pulleys (13, 14) which define its path. A non-extendable belt (7) passes round the motor pinion pulley and other pulleys (21, 22) to contact the pulleys carrying the flexible belt. The motor drives the tape past the head adjacent to a section (17) of tape between two deflector shafts (18, 19).
