A toy marketry or jig saw comprises a body 1 containing an inertia mechanism 9 having a flywheel which is spun by means of an automatically retracting pull string 8. Rotation of the flywheel is coupled to a toothed wheel 10. A pointed member 6 which passes through a slot 5 of a sole plate 4 is retractable into the body against the action of a spring. When retracted, a surface 12 of the member 6 presses a metal strip 11 so that a free end thereof is pressed against the teeth of the wheel 10 to produce a sound. IMAGE
