Lithographic printing can be carried out without using a pouring solution if the plate used has a non-absorbing hydrophilic surface and the ink is added in the form of a dispersion of a solution of one or more inert, deliquescent inorganic materials in a polyhydric alcohol in a continuous phase of lithographic printing ink which contains a chlorinated or cyclised rubber resin or a phenol resin modified with a turpentine resin, a solvent or a carrier for the resin, and a pigment. After image formation, the plate is primed and can then be used for printing without a pouring solution.
