A filament, and optionally a cord of cabled filaments, as a composite of (A) a filament and/or cord of steel, (18) a brass and/or zinc coating thereon and (C) an undercoat comprised of selected compounds. The invention further relates to a composite of such filament and/or cord as a reinforcement with rubber.
