A gear mechanism for increasing efficiency of a hand crank or pedal operated machine comprising an externally toothed spur gear rigidly supported on a centre shaft which is rigidly mountable on the frame or body of the said machine; an internally toothed spur gear (driven gear) rotatably supported on the said centre shaft and being concentric with the said externally toothed spur gear; another externally toothed spur gear (driver gear) in mesh with the said internally toothed spur gear and said externally toothed spur gear and having one end of a driver shaft rigidly connected thereto; and an arm rotatably supported in the said centre shaft, the said driver shaft being rotatably supported in the said arm for positioning and aligning the said another externally toothed spur gear.
