A METHOD FOR OPERATING A COMBUSTION-ENGINE WITH GAS FROM A GAS-GENERATOR FOR SOLID FUELS

The engine operated on solid fuel, e.g. fine sawdust, is coupled to a gas generator receiving the latter continuously or intermittently in dependence on the engine loading. The exhaust gases from the engine are used to dry the fuel being conveyed to the gas generator either directly and/or via heat transfer to the conveying device. Pref. the fuel is dried and conveyed to the gas generator in the presence of inert gas, via a feed screw angled upwards. The inner shaft of the feed screw is hollow and receives the exhaust gases from the engine. The outer casing of the feed screw may be double-walled and the engine cooling water can be fed through it.
