Electrodischarge machining method and device with periodically repeated withdrawal of the electrode for flushing purposes, in which arrangement the actual erosion time per cycle can be established via a summation time-function element. Interruptions as a result of a reaction of the electrode to short circuits and the like are also allowed for here. The total cycle time results as a sum of the withdrawal time, renewed infeed time and actual erosion time plus any withdrawals as a result of short circuit and the like.
