M-1041ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE4-Alkyl-4-aroyl-1-piperidinobutyrophenone derivatives andpharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof of the following generalstructure:wherein R is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen or trifluoromethyl; R' ishydrogen or halogen; and 2" is alkyl; are useful as antipsychoticagents. The novel compounds are produced by reacting 4-alkyl-4-aroylpiperidines or salts thereof with 4-halobutyrophenones or byreacting protected 4-alkyl-4-cyano-piperidinobutyrophenones with arylGrignard reagents and subsequent hydrolysis.
