In a wire-rope stone-cutting saw with which workpieces of predetermined contour can be cut out of natural- or synthetic-stone slabs, in order to achieve, in the area of the sawing section, especially smooth running of the wire rope and reliable guidance, suitable for the contours, one running- or guide-roller set each, as viewed in the running direction of the wire rope, is arranged at a slight distance from the workpiece in front of the entry point of the wire rope into the sawing section and behind the exit point of the wire rope. Relative to the longitudinal axis of the wire rope, the running- or guide-roller set provides axially symmetric support and guidance of the same. In the simplest case, each of the two roller sets comprises two rollers which are arranged opposite one another and are provided with sufficiently deep guide grooves for good lateral guidance. By means of a motion-modulation device, the wire rope can be periodically shifted back and forth at right angles to the cutting direction on its section passing through the sawing section, as a result of which a uniform kerf width is guaranteed even with advancing wear of the wire rope.
