To flame cut the penetration openings of two partly penetrating pipes which are subsequently welded to one another, the penetration curve of the inner wall of the one pipe (main pipe) is determined by the outer wall of the other pipe (secondary pipe). The penetration opening of the one pipe is then cut mechanically while simultaneously forming the welding bevel, and then the penetration opening of the other pipe is likewise cut mechanically, the extension of the torch axis in each case coinciding with this penetration curve. This ensures that the penetration opening of the one pipe runs flush with the inner wall of the other pipe after the pipes are put together. Finally, the two pipes are welded to one another. IMAGE
