The invention relates to a device for operating an oil-fired or gas-fired dual-fuel burner, in which, after the consumption of a given gas quantity within a shorter time span than an output accounting period, the energy consumer is switched over to a second energy carrier until the end of this output accounting period and subsequently the dual-fuel burner is again operated with gas, according to Patent Application P 3033638.0-13, with, for controlling the procedure, a maximum indicator connected into the gas supply pipe and a time switch for measuring-period control and a switch-over device in each case for a valve in the gas and the oil supply pipe. This device is to be of simpler construction in relation to that according to the main patent. To this end, it is envisaged that the maximum indicator (11) and the time switch (17) are combined to form a maximum load indicator (32) known per se which is connected to the switch-over device (23) directly or via a relay (20).
