The invention relates to a plastic film suitable for producing a lettering stencil composed of an alcohol-soluble polyamide with a photosensitive layer deposited on it which is composed of a mixture of at least one polymer from the group comprising 1. polyvinyl acetate, 2. copolymers of vinyl acetate with monomers which can be copolymerised therewith, and 3. cellulose acetate having a degree of acetylation which is lower than that of triacetate, and at least one p-benzoquinone diazide, the back of said layer being provided with an adhesive and a protective film. The invention also relates to a process for producing a lettering stencil using said film by developing the latter in a single operation with aqueous salicylate solution after exposure to an image with UV light and simultaneously etching it.
