The safety device interrupts the pyrotechnic sequence when the shell (1) is stationary, preventing premature explosion. It comprises two half circular shapes (5,5') which are enclosed within a spiral spring (10) and positioned between the detonator (3) and the initial firing charge (4). When the shell is fired and spins, centrifugal force causes the spring to open out in its cavity (11). This allows the overlapping faces of the seals to open out also and provide the access for detonating the charge. The spring and seals are located on a boss (7) over the initial charge.
