Record player turntable mat - made of silicone vulcanised at over 100 deg. c and comprising good vibration damper and conductor

A resilient cover mat for a record player, the mat being used to support a record on the turntable during playing, is made of a mixture of silicone mastics vulcanised at a temperature of over 100 degrees C. The mixture comprises one mastic which is an excellent shock absorber and one which is lightly conductive. Preferably the mastics, after vulcanising, have a wick coefficient of elasticity at least equal to 50 and a conductance of at least 50 ohm cm. Two such mastics are EVC 31754 and EVC 706 A40 which are mixed in proportions 60% to 40% by weight. To test the degree to which the mat damps turntable vibrations the signal from a test disc is compared with that provided when a known mat is used. Distortion and rumble is considerably reduced.
