Ground freezing with cold fluid in pipes - involves successive insertion and withdrawal from separate pipe sections

Cooled fluid is conveyed to a freezing-pipe inserted in a borehole, and then withdrawn after indirect heat exchange with the surrounding earth, in a process for freezing ground. Before insertion in the ground, the pipe is divided into a number of sections. After insertion, fluid is initially introduced only into the first section, and withdrawn from this after heat exchange. Successive sections are exposed at periodic intervals, and fluid is passed through them. In equipment with two or more pipes, ends of each (1,2) are pref. externally threaded offset pieces (3,5), with sockets (7) for interconnection, and a sealing separator (6) between pipes.
