A sampling device for taking portions of equal vol. from a paste or dough comprises a chamber with a piston which can withdraw paste from the base of a hopper and discharge when the plate carrying the chamber shifts out of line with the base of the hopper. The connecting rod for the piston is driven by a rotary eccentric. The effective piston travel for entraining and discharging the sample is controlled by cam rails which can be reset to adjust the piston stroke by a suitable mechanical adjustment, thus controlling the sample size. Esp. for sampling dough to make buns, etc. Simpler to construct, adjust and clean than rotary sampling devices.
