Waste heat boiler for coal gasification processes - transfers heat in annular chamber with water-cooled walls

Boiler to recover heat from gas stream containing molten slag particles comprises a vertical firebrick lined vessel in which are located two concentric vertical cylindrical walls of welded conventional boiler tubing employing familiar water wall construction. Gas enters vertically down through the central cylinder, reverses and passes back up the outer annulus. Slag is thrown out as the flow recesses and is quenched in a water bath in the base of the vessel. Heat is transferred to the water tubing from the gas before it exits through a side connection near the top of the vessel. Used for heat recovery in high temp. coal gasification processes.
