Paper or comprises a support based on cellulosic fibres and a layer(s) (I) of synthetic material imparting moisture resistance properties. (I) is a molten, pressed layer formed from an aq. compsn. contg. 80-100 (85-95) wt.%, based on solids, of organic synthetic fibres, e.g. polyolefins, the rest of the solids being cellulosic fibres. Prepn. of the prod. is also claimed as well as a device for the prepn. The paper (or cardboard) is used for packaging powders, liq. etc. It can be prepd. by known paper-making techniques more cheaply than by extrusion-coating methods. Adhesion between the cellulosic support and the synthetic layer is also stronger than obtd. by the extrusion method.
