The unit incorporates an applicator and a cleaning system to allow the wax to be recovered and re-used. The wax is held in a bowl and is electrically heated (4) to a temperature above its liquefication temp. The wax is passed through a changeable filter (8) fitted into a container (20) forming the inlet to a circulation pump (7). A two way valve in the filter unit (8) opens to either atmosphere or the interior of the bowl. In the first position of the valve, contaminated wax is drawn through the filter, while in the second position the pump drains the filter to allow changing of the filter element. The pump outlet is coupled to a flexible hose (19) with a spatulate termination forming an applicator. Electric resistance wires are incorporated into the flexible tubing to maintain the wax temperature along the length of the hose.
