Oxygen from a pressurised supply (1) flows through a pressure reducer (2) to a respirator (3). A vacuum chamber (4) divided internally by a membrane (5) detects the breathing periods from the respirator. The other side of the membrane is open to atmospheric pressure. A sensor (7) on the membrane has an enclosure subjected to the pressure of a control fluid and is coupled to an operating finger (9). This operates on a venturi (10) which issues a signal to a buffer reservoir (12) connected to the pressure reducer. A fluid gate (11) is connected through a restrictor (13) at the input to a preamplifier comprising an amplifier with a membrane (14). This provides a control signal to a fluid power amplifier (15) supplying the respirator.
