Improvements relating to oil platforms and rigs

Cradle apparatus (12) is movably mounted on the underside of an oil platform or rig by means of wheeled assemblies (14) supported on rails (11). The cradle apparatus comprises a mounting block (13) from which a telescopic arm portion (15) is suspended by a slewing arrangement. A second telescopic arm portion 23 is pivotably mounted on the first arm portion (15). At the free end of the second arm portion (23) is pivotably mounted a cradle (32). A gear arrangement (29, 30) controls the rotation of the second arm portion 23 relative to the first arm portion (15) and a chain and sprocket arrangement (33, 34, 35) maintains the cradle in the same orientation relative to the first arm (15).
