PURPOSE:To minimize variation of the particle size distribution of coke in a prechamber due to difference in the height of coke falling, by controlling the height of a coke guide and adjusting the particle size distribution of coke in the prechamber on the basis of the results of calculation by a computing device. CONSTITUTION:When red-hot coke is to be charged into a prechamber 11 where coke is present in a small amount, a coke level sensor 20 gives a high value of measurement and a computing device 19 sends out a signal to an adjusting mechanism 18 to raise a coke guide 16. On the contrary, when coke is present in a large amount in the prechamber 16, the coke level is lowered and the adjusting mechanism 18 sends out a signal to bring down the coke guide 16. Thus, the adjustment of the height of the coke guide 16 is interlocked with the information obtained from the coke level sensor 20 and the point of coke falling in the prechamber 11 is always kept at an ideal position, thus leading to prevention of unbalance of the coke particle size distribution and enabling flow of cooling gas within a cooling chamber.
