CNS-Depressant pyrazolopyridines

Compounds of the formula (I): IMAGE I wherein R1, R3, R4, R7 and R8 are as described herein, D is oxygen or NR6, n is 1 or 2 and the physiologically acceptable salts thereof useful in reducing anxiety in an animal such as man. The compounds are potent anxiolytics having reduced side effects compared to known anxiolytics. Also pharmaceutical compositions, intermediates and methods of treatment and synthesis are described.
